Venezuela’s Maduro Condemns ‘Imperialist Coup’ Plot

Alwaght- Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has condemned a plan by sectors of the right-wing opposition to activate and justify an intervention in that country.

Speaking on Saturday, Maduro said, "We have contained and defeated the oligarchic, imperialist coup that was being planned against Venezuela this week.”

"We have contained and defeated the oligarchic, imperialist coup that was being planned against Venezuela this week," Maduro said.

On Saturday, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro denounced a plan by sectors of the right-wing opposition to activate and justify an intervention in that country.

"We have contained and defeated the oligarchic, imperialist coup that was being planned against Venezuela this week,” Maduro said.  He added that, “The homeland is already at peace.”

During an event held at the Military Academy's Honor Patio located in Fort Tiuna, Caracas in commemoration of the 196th anniversary of the Battle of Carabobo, the Venezuelan president explained that the plan consisted of several stages in a chain of events that transpired from last Monday until this Saturday.

The plan, according to Maduro, involved increased acts of violence to provoke deaths, commotion in the east of the capital and the betrayal of a group of soldiers who called for a coup to justify a process of intervention were part of that agenda. He stressed that the plan was neutralized by the country's executive branch. "From the high military political command we've been in session and permanent activity to cut the chain of coup events,” Maduro said.

“Today, 196 years after Carabobo, we've contained, we've unveiled and we're defeating the imperialist coup and our country is at peace," he emphasized.

The head of state also highlighted Venezuela's victory of peace and truth before the interventionist actions promoted by the Organization of American States.

Maduro also reported that Venezuelan authorities detected a center of operations managed by opposition sectors that sought to perpetrate a sabotage of the National Electoral Council's computer mainframe. The purpose was to prevent the holding of elections for the National Constituent Assembly on July 30.

Trump pursuing regime change

The US administration of Donald Trump has publicized its policy of pursuing regime change in Venezuela. Speaking in January before his confirmation, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson declared that he would pursue regime change in Venezuela. Tillerson was an executive in ExxonMobil when in 2007, late Venezuelan President Chavez ordered the nationalization of 22 major multinational corporations operating in the country including ExxonMobil. The top US diplomat now appears to be on a revenge mission against the revolutionary Venezuelan government.

According to media reports last May, the US has spent at least $49 million since 2009 to support right-wing opposition forces in Venezuela who are now engaged in violent protests to oust democratically-elected President Nicolas Maduro.

A 2007 US strategic document leaked by former CIA-whistleblower Edward Snowden in 2013 indicates that Venezuela was seen as the main adversary of the United States in the Western Hemisphere. The country was listed as one of the top six enduring targets for the top US spy agency, NSA, along with China, North Korea, Iraq, Iran and Russia.
