Iran: World Must Act Decisively to Stop Israeli Genocide and Honor Victims

ALWAGHT- At the UN, Iran's ambassador called for urgent, unified international action to halt what he labeled Israel's "ongoing genocide" in Gaza.

In a speech marking the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Commemoration for Genocide Victims, Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani called for urgent and unified global action to halt what he described as an ongoing genocide in Gaza. He emphasized that silence in the face of such crimes is not an option, stating that confronting genocide is both a legal obligation and a moral duty for the international community. Iravani reiterated Iran’s commitment to preventing genocide and stressed that the world must act “decisively, collectively, and immediately” to stop atrocities and uphold the dignity of victims.

The ambassador highlighted Iran’s role as a co-sponsor of the resolution establishing the commemorative day and honored all victims whose suffering, he argued, should compel the world to act with moral clarity. He framed genocide prevention as a binding responsibility under international law, shared by all nations, and called for the punishment of perpetrators wherever the threat arises.

Iravani directly attributed the crisis to Israel, stating that what he termed a genocide began in October 2023 following a Palestinian resistance operation, which itself was a response to decades of occupation. He cited a Palestinian death toll of approximately 70,400, predominantly women and children, and accused Israel of continuing to kill civilians despite agreeing to a ceasefire deal with Hamas.
