Iran Parliament Speaker Vows to Hear Protesters, Act Against Foreign-Linked Agitators

ALWAGHT- Qalibaf said legitimate public protests deserve attention, adding that foreign intelligence–linked individuals attempting to fuel riots would be handled separately by authorities.

Speaking in parliament, Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said firm measures are needed to safeguard public security and social stability. His remarks followed protests sparked by Tehran shop closures over the sharp depreciation of Iran’s national currency.

Officials have acknowledged the economic hardships facing citizens and affirmed that peaceful protests are legitimate. Qalibaf stressed the importance of separating genuine protesters from rioters and foreign-backed instigators, citing the Leader’s guidance as a clear framework for managing unrest and urging dialogue with citizens.

He said the government is committed to economic stabilization and addressing legitimate public grievances, expressing confidence that planned measures will respond to protesters’ demands. At the same time, he warned that those seeking to exploit protests for violence would be confronted.

Turning to foreign affairs, Qalibaf sharply criticized the United States and Israel, accusing Israel of war crimes in Gaza and condemning US support for Israeli leaders. He also denounced Washington’s treatment of Venezuela, arguing that US actions reflect a broader shift toward coercion and the erosion of international law, and called for national unity to preserve Iran’s independence.
