US –Turkey agreement to Train and Equip “Moderate Syrian Opposition”

Saturday 21 February 2015
US –Turkey agreement to Train and Equip “Moderate Syrian Opposition”

Alwaght-The US State Department announced that the US administration and the Turkey government have reach an agreement “in principle” to train and equip, what the announcement called “moderate Syrian rebels”.  “As we have announced before, Turkey has agreed to be one of the regional hosts for the train and equip program for moderate Syrian opposition forces,” department representative Jen Psaki told reporters.

On Tuesday, Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that the agreement protocol, to train the “Free Syrian Army” (FSA) will be signed soon in the US.

Previously this month, British Prime Minister David Cameron also declared that British Trainers will soon be assisting “Syrian Rebels”.

The FSA has long been asking its Western and regional backers for more support in its fight against the Syrian army. There has been heavy fighting recently in northern Syria. The FSA now only controls parts of Aleppo, while it have lost control over many regions either to the Syrian Arab Army or to the terrorist groups. While these few ‘moderate rebel’ groups beg the west for military intervention, their leaders spend time in luxury Hotels in Turkey, Qatar and western capitals.

However, the questions that arise here, is there really such a thing as a moderate Syrian opposition? Have there ever been moderate rebels in Syria? Does the US administration guarantee that these weaponries will not fall into the hands of ISIS and Al Nusra militants?

It is known that the aforementioned powers have supported Syrian and terrorist against the Syrian Arab Army and the Syrian people, since the beginning of the crisis in the country. They were supported by all means, financially, militarily, and in the media. Turkey, as well as Jordan have opened there borders for mercenaries from all over the world to pass into Syrian soils. Qatar, Saudi monarchies, as well as the US government backed the terrorist group financially and with Intel.

At the beginning of the Syrian crisis, these regional regimes and the global powers refused to admit that there is not such a thing called as moderate rebels. They ignored all the terrorist actions of the so-called Free Syrian Army. They ignored reports and footages of the barbaric actions of FSA militants, such as mass slaughters, beheading, eating the flesh of Syrian soldiers, using chemical weapons, throwing people off buildings, burning people alive in Daraa etc.  In the western and Arabic media, all these practices were pinned to the President Bashar Al-Assad’s government.

With the up rise of the evident terrorist groups, such as Al Nusra Front and ISIS terrorist group, FSA lost control over vast regions and tons of weaponries to these groups. FSA militants were killed in battles with these groups, executed. Many fighters among the so-called “moderates” have defected to other groups that are better equipped and in better position to seize territories.

Americans themselves know that these arms will not change the course of the conflict in Syrian. Leslie Gelb, an assistant secretary of state in the Carter administration and now a fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations remarks, “They couldn’t win no matter how many arms we gave them. That has been the story war after war, I don’t know why we have to learn this one lesson administration after administration. We learned this in Iraq.” Furthermore, this is what happened in Libya, the US/NATO supported different fighting Libyan groups during and after the revolution against Al Qaddafi. Now ISIS is only miles away from Europe through its Italian corridor.

Moreover, Obama’s administration and the Turkish President Recep Erdogan realize that these arms will eventually will fall in the hands of ISIS and Al Nusra, and the trained so-called “moderate” militants will defect to these terrorist groups, as it happened with the previously trained mercenaries and previously delivered arms.  Maybe this is their plan.
