ALWAGHT- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said externally imposed solutions and foreign decision-making cannot bring lasting stability to Afghanistan, stressing the central role of neighboring states in promoting sustainable security, development, and regional integration.
Tehran hosted a meeting on Sunday of special representatives from Afghanistan’s neighboring countries, along with Russia, to discuss recent developments in Afghanistan and South Asia. Participants included officials from Pakistan, Russia, China, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.
Opening the session, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stressed that Afghanistan’s stability and development are vital for regional security, citing the country’s strategic geoeconomic position linking Central, West, and South Asia. He said Afghanistan’s human and natural capacities make its stability a regional necessity.
Araghchi argued that past foreign interventions and externally imposed decisions failed to deliver lasting peace, emphasizing that regional, neighbor-led solutions offer greater prospects for sustainable stability. He called for a coordinated regional framework focused on collective security, development, and practical cooperation.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the meeting reflects Iran’s continued consultations with neighboring countries to promote peace, reduce tensions, and strengthen regional cohesion. He reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to regional stability and mutual understanding.
