ALWAGHT- According to a monitoring group, Israeli troops carried out a new ground incursion into a village in Syria’s Quneitra province as military tensions escalated near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
A monitoring group reported that an Israeli convoy of around ten military vehicles entered the village of Saida al-Hanout in Syria’s Quneitra countryside early Saturday, establishing a temporary checkpoint and searching several homes. No arrests were reported. The incursion followed similar operations in the area over recent days and weeks.
According to Syrian state media, Israeli forces have repeatedly advanced into multiple villages in Quneitra, including Beer Ajam, Bariqa, Samdaniya al-Sharqiya, and al-Ajraf, setting up temporary checkpoints and carrying out excavation activities. These movements reflect a pattern of intensified ground operations near the occupied Golan Heights.
The incursions come amid Israel’s expanded military posture in southern Syria, including control of the buffer zone in violation of the 1974 disengagement agreement. Analysts say the lack of resistance from Syria’s current rulers and signs of normalization with Israel have emboldened Tel Aviv to deepen its territorial presence and escalate military actions inside Syria.
