ALWAGHT- The Speakers of Iran and Ethiopia’s parliaments, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Tagesse Chafo, emphasized enhancing political, economic, and legislative cooperation and called for the swift creation of a Joint Economic Commission.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Ethiopian House Speaker Tagesse Chafo held a joint press conference in Tehran to discuss expanding bilateral relations following both countries’ recent entry into the BRICS group. They emphasized the importance of strengthening political, economic, and parliamentary ties.
Ghalibaf highlighted Iran’s strategic focus on developing relations with African nations, particularly in the Horn of Africa, and stressed the need for concrete steps to leverage existing opportunities. He underscored Ethiopia’s significance as a populous African country with close cultural and religious ties to the Islamic world.
Both speakers called for accelerated action on trade and cooperation, including the swift establishment of a Joint Economic Commission. Ghalibaf noted that the Ethiopian Prime Minister’s planned visit to Tehran would further boost economic and political engagement between the two nations.
Chafo expressed optimism about the future of bilateral ties, citing the historical depth of the relationship and shared cultural heritage. He emphasized that parliamentary and economic cooperation would be strengthened through reciprocal visits by the countries’ Parliamentary Friendship Groups, laying the foundation for closer and more structured collaboration.
