Alwaght-US President Barack Obama took control over Ukraine in February 2014 through toppling the democratically elected Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, and via imposing a pro-American Government in Kiev. President Yanukovych has been elected by overwhelming margins in Ukraine’s southeastern regions: Crimea, Luhansk, and Donetsk.
Following the installment of an anti-Russian government in Kiev, Crimea broke away from the government. Russia sent troops to Crimea to protect Crimeans against the American-planned military actions to prevent the region’s independency. Later in March, Crimeans overwhelmingly voted for Crimea reunion with Russia .
People elsewhere in Ukraine’s southeast region, refused to accept the newly installed pro-US government by taking over government buildings and disobeying its orders. At this point, Obama and his newly appointed Ukrainian government were determined to stop the revolution in southeast areas, by commencing aggression in that region except in Crimea, which is now defended by Russian troops. Actually, the operation there is an ethnic-cleansing campaign to get rid of people who voted for the overthrown Yanukovych, and the US government sent mercenaries to feed the Ukrainian civil war .
The triggering of the Ukrainian conflict by the US government aims to use the Russian backyard as dagger pointed towards Vladimir Putin government’s heart. Obama targets ousting Putin and replacing his government with a pro-American puppets .
In this context, the US government and its satellites imposed sanctions against Russian financial, energy, and defense sectors. In addition, several Russian and pro-Russian Ukrainian figures were subjected to travel ban and assets freezing. US government claims that these sanctions are imposed due to “Russia’s direct military intervention and blatant efforts to destabilize Ukraine .”
Obama stated in a recent interview about Russia, “The days in which conquest of land somehow was a formula for great nation status is over.” However, who is seeking war? Who is seeking conquests ?
Obama’s administration keeps raising the threat of more sanctions, even if a cease-fire was sealed in the future. These intimidations assure that the US purpose of the Ukrainian crisis is the head of the Russian government. However, the Russian politicians believe that sanctions are ineffective, and they are just for external consumption .
The US administration dragged the European Union into the conflict, aiming to weaken this power through incorporating it in crisis with its Russian neighbor. It seems that the EU is the most vulnerable in this game .
Following the Western sanctions, Russia imposed a yearlong food embargo against a number of countries including the United States, members of the European Union (EU), Australia, Canada, and Norway last August. According to Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo, the EU has lost some USD 24 billion as of the beginning of February due to the Russian bans. Other companies announced that anti-Russian sanctions of the West have caused them billion dollars losses. Through the Ukrainian conflict, Obama’s administration was the aggressor, through provoking a proxy-war led by Neo-Nazi Ukrainian groups .
On the other hand, the Russian government, unlike Obama’s, is navigating toward peace. Putin is not seeking an open-ended war. In this context, Moscow had recognized Poroshenko as the president of the whole Ukraine – although there were no elections in the South East and opposition parties were banned from participating. Moscow also asked the Donbass rebels to refrain from carrying out their referendum, and additionally convinced Donbass war-leaders were convinced to retire. However, Putin will not cut off and forget about the Crimea, Donbass, or the Ukrainian conflict .
Putin’s steps were unpopular among Russians, but he made them in order to promote a peaceful solution for Ukraine. However, Putin’s actions and intentions were disregarded by the US and EC. They encouraged the war party in Kiev .
Last month, Putin went to Minsk to carryout cease-fire meetings with the Ukrainian government in the presence of the German Chancellor and French president. However, the pro-US Ukrainian government pushed by its backer reneged on the agreements reached. Kiev sieged Donbass, cut off its banks, ceased buying Donbass coal, stopped to pay pensions, and its troops daily shell Donetsk .
Perhaps president Poroshenko of Kiev would like to, but Kiev war party with its western support will unseat Poroshenko if he goes too far. Although Russia would prefer the West to put pressure on its clients in Kiev, but the only way to force him and his employers to peace is war, as in the case of Minsk accords, when Russian and rebel offense in Donbass dragged him to the agreement .
However, it seems the US government keeps raising the resolution roof, through pushing Poroshenko to continue his proxy war against Ukrainian civilians and evading his agreements with Moscow. Additionally, it continues to push its European “allies” to take actions and turn other states against Russia, with some success, in a strategy to weaken both parties.
