ALWAGHT- In a major assault, Israeli forces targeted al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City—the only remaining functional hospital in the north—damaging its emergency ward, main gate, and a key oxygen unit for ICU patients.
Following the bombing of al-Ahli Hospital on Sunday, critically ill patients were left stranded in the streets of northern Gaza, as the last functioning hospital in the region was rendered out of service. Emergency doctor Razan al-Nahhas reported the deaths of at least three evacuated patients, including a 12-year-old boy on oxygen, who died en route to a smaller, overwhelmed facility. She described a harrowing scene of families desperately trying to transport patients through the chaos, with little hope of finding adequate medical care.
Al-Nahhas noted that many of the patients at al-Ahli were suffering from severe, traumatic injuries such as amputations, head trauma, chest wounds, and burns—conditions that require intensive monitoring and cannot be managed in the streets. She warned that without access to proper treatment, many of these high-risk patients would not survive. Gaza authorities condemned the attack, stating that the hospital was treating hundreds at the time, and verified footage showed a massive explosion followed by panic and chaos as displaced Palestinians fled the area.
The attack on al-Ahli Hospital is part of a broader pattern, with Gaza's Government Media Office listing 35 hospitals hit by Israeli forces since the war began on October 7, 2023. Israel has repeatedly claimed, without evidence, that resistance fighters use hospitals as command centers. The destruction of medical facilities has deepened the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where over 50,900 Palestinians—mostly women and children—have been killed in ongoing Israeli bombardments.
