ALWAGHT- Iran’s Petroleum Minister, Mohsen Paknejad, has arrived in Baghdad to explore opportunities for enhancing energy cooperation between Iran and Iraq.
Iran’s Petroleum Minister Mohsen Paknejad began a two-day visit to Baghdad on Monday, invited by his Iraqi counterpart. During his stay, he is set to meet with Iraqi officials, including the oil and electricity ministers and the prime minister, to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector.
The two countries plan to sign a memorandum of understanding in the oil sector, along with agreements on gas supply to Iraqi power plants. Paknejad also visited a memorial site honoring General Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who were killed in a US drone strike in 2020.
Paknejad expressed optimism about finalizing prior discussions and enhancing collaboration in oil and energy projects. His visit follows a March meeting in Tehran with Iraq’s electricity minister, where they explored joint efforts in oil, gas, petrochemicals, and electricity.
