ALWAGHT- Iran has expressed condolences to Myanmar and Thailand after a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck both countries.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, in a statement on Saturday, extended condolences to the victims’ families and the governments and people of Myanmar and Thailand. He also expressed Iran’s readiness to assist in relief and rescue efforts in both countries.
A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar and Thailand on Friday near Mandalay, causing widespread destruction. Buildings collapsed, roads buckled, bridges fell, and a dam burst. The quake was followed by multiple aftershocks, including one of 6.4 magnitude.
Myanmar’s military-led government reported on Saturday that 1,002 people had died, 2,376 were injured, and 30 remained missing, with casualty figures still being updated.
In Thailand, Bangkok authorities confirmed six deaths, 26 injuries, and 47 missing persons. Over 100 engineers will be deployed to inspect buildings following more than 2,000 damage reports.
