Iran FM States That Specific Changes Are Required for Talks with the US

Iran FM States That Specific Changes Are Required for Talks with the US

ALWAGHT- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi states that negotiations with the United States are not feasible unless specific changes occur, as Washington awaits a response to its invitation for discussions on a new nuclear deal.

According to Reuters, Tehran received a letter this month from US President Donald Trump, giving Iran a two-month deadline to either enter new negotiations or face stricter sanctions under his renewed "maximum pressure" campaign. While Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei dismissed the offer as deceptive, Iran’s foreign minister stated on Thursday that Tehran would soon respond to both the threats and potential opportunities outlined in the letter.

On Sunday, Abbas Araghchi clarified that Iran's refusal to engage in talks was not due to “stubbornness” but rather based on historical experience. He emphasized that Washington must adjust its policies before Tehran considers negotiations. Araghchi also pointed out that Iran’s nuclear advancements make a return to the previous conditions of the 2015 nuclear deal impractical.

During his first term, Trump withdrew the US from the 2015 agreement, which had imposed strict limits on Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. Araghchi argued that reviving the deal in its current form would no longer be beneficial for Iran, as its nuclear capabilities have significantly advanced beyond the pact’s original framework.
