ISIS Claims Responsibility for Iraq’s Kadhimiyah Bomb Attack, 17 Killed

Alwaght- A suicide bomber blew up himself in Iraqi city of Kadhimiyah, also known as Kazmain, killing at least 17and injuring 20 more.

According to Iraqi police, a bomber detonated his explosives near a security checkpoint at one of the entrances of Kadhimiyah in northern Baghdad on Sunday morning, leaving 17 people, mostly civilians.

At least 20 other people were wounded, he added.

5kilometres north of capital city of Baghdad, Kazmain is regarded as a holy city in Shiite Islam.

ISIS terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the deadly incident.

ISIS has suffered a number of territorial losses, most recently last month in Fallujah, where it was expeled by Iraqi forces after occupying the city for more than two years. But the terrorists have continued to carry out near-daily bombings in and around Baghdad to take revenge on Iraqi people.

Security forces and public areas, mainly in Shiite neighborhoods, are one of the most frequent targets for the terrorist group, which controls key areas in mainly northern and western Iraq.

kilometers north of capital city of Baghdad, Kadhimiyah is regarded as a holy city in Shiite Islam, receiving its name from the two Shiite Imams buried there: Musa al-Kadhim and his grandson and successor, Muhammad al-Jawad.
