Alwaght- 11th February's massive public demonstrations in Iran, once again, have prompted the international media. Some press and media websites, today (Thursday, February 12th ,2015) covered the topic, some expressed the event as it happened:
American newspaper Christian Science Monitor (CSMonitor):
Iran marks Islamic Revolution anniversary with massive rallies, amid nuke talks.
Iran marked the anniversary of its 1979 Islamic Revolution on Wednesday with massive rallies, with many chanting against the U.S. and Israel as the country tries to reach a permanent deal with world powers over its contested nuclear program.
A woman, who attended the rally, said the nuclear talks likely inspired Iranians to take part in commemorations and added” "This year, we have turned out bigger than before because of the ongoing nuclear talks to make America understand that it cannot achieve its goals in these talks."
Wednesday's events commemorate Feb. 11, 1979, when followers of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini ousted U.S.-backed Shah Reza Pahlavi. America helped orchestrate the 1953 coup that overthrew Iran's popularly elected prime minister, Mohammad Mossadegh, which brought Pahlavi to power and set the stage for decades of mistrust between the countries.
American Broadcasting Company (abc News):
The Iranian Revolution: Why It Still Matters Decades Later
This network via a short video that was released today on its Web site, claims that it is "Looking directly into the actual events of the revolution".
According to the network, 36 years ago Iran saw its monarchy upended in what is known today as “The Islamic revolution”. The U.S. backed Shah was overthrown and replaced with an Islamic Republic. Peaceful demonstrations rallied against the Shah western leanings and his crackdown on political dissent. The exiled cleric Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini sharply criticized the Shah, and famously labeled the U.S. the “Great Satan”. The demonstrations spiraled into violence and the Shah fled the country. Ayatollah Khomeini returned, greeted by millions and became Iran’s Supreme Leader. On November 4, 1979, students took over the U.S. embassy in Tehran. They took 52 Americans hostage, and held them for 444 days. The hostages were freed in January 1981, but by then diplomatic relations with the U.S. Today, Iranians celebrate the revolution as a victory against U.S. and Western influence.
Al-monitor website, through a report published on its website:
36 years after the revolution, where is Iran now?
investigates the situation the Islamic Republic of Iran in the thirty-sixth anniversary of the revolution. The report pointed to the glorious February 22 demonstrations across the country. In the past 36 years Iran has struggled with immense challenges, but despite all these crises, Iran has preserved. Iran has since managed to become one of the rare countries able to maintain its political-security independence and foster an atmosphere of socio-economic self-reliance in a nation that was once so incredibly dependent on outside powers.
Other news networks and journals, undermined the event as follows:
American newspaper The Washington Post (WP):
Iran nuclear deal must end all sanctions, Rouhani tells rally
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Wednesday that he is seeking the removal of all sanctions against his country during negotiations with world powers on a nuclear deal.
“We want an agreement that protects our dignity and respect,” Rouhani said in Tehran, as he addressed a few thousand people at a rally to mark the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution that deposed the U.S.-backed shah.
In his speech Wednesday, Rouhani said the goal of the negotiations was a “win-win” outcome, with Iran showing transparency in pursuing peaceful nuclear energy in exchange for a removal of “wrong, inhumane and illegal” sanctions imposed on the country.
Yedioth Ahronot Israeli news on its webite Ynet:
Iran marks Islamic Revolution anniversary with 'Down with Israel' signs
Thousands of people gathered in the capital Tehran and other cities across Iran, with some calling "Down with America" and "Death to Israel." State television aired footage of these commemorations.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, addressing a crowd of thousands in Tehran, pledged to "spare no effort" to protect the Islamic Republic's rights as it negotiates.
BloombergBusiness News Network:
Iran Nuclear Deal Must End All Sanctions, Rouhani Tells Rally
“We want an agreement that protects our dignity and respect,” Rouhani said in Tehran as he addressed a few thousand people at a rally to mark the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution that deposed the U.S.-backed shah.
Other news networks like CNN and Reuters went further than just undermining the event, there is no place for such an important event on their websites; Reuters just pointed to “his speech on Wednesday at ceremonies marking the 36th anniversary of Iran's Islamic Revolution”. Reuters did more than that, they distorted his speech:
Rouhani also addressed criticism about Iran’s regional role.
“If you want peace and well-being to be in place in the Middle East and you want terrorism to be uprooted, then there’s no path other than the presence of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said, according to Fars news agency.
But, actually what Rouhani meant is the positive role that is Iran playing in helping and supporting the West Asian countries i.e. Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen against Takffiri terrorists like al-Nusra Front and ISIS.
