ALWAGHT- The Yemeni military reports shooting down another US MQ-9 drone involved in "hostile operations" within the country's airspace.
Yemeni air defenses successfully shot down an American MQ-9 drone in al-Jawf Governorate, marking the third drone downed in ten days and the eighteenth during Yemen’s ongoing military campaign, "Promised Victory and Holy Jihad." The drone, which was engaged in hostile missions, was brought down using a locally manufactured missile. The total estimated cost of the downed drones is around $600 million, considering the MQ-9's average unit cost of $33 million.
The downing of the drone comes amid heightened tensions between the US and Yemen, with the US military recently carrying out multiple airstrikes across Yemen, including a series of deadly attacks on civilian areas in al-Hudaydah, resulting in numerous casualties. Yemeni forces have repeatedly condemned the US aggression, which has targeted civilian infrastructure and exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in the country.
Yemen's military has vowed to continue its retaliatory strikes against US and Israeli forces, citing their ongoing support for the Palestinian cause in Gaza. The Yemeni government has pledged not to cease its operations until the violence in Gaza ends and the blockade is lifted. The country remains committed to defending its sovereignty and supporting Palestinians amidst the ongoing conflict.
