Alwaght- Nigeria and Chad armies have launched a joint military operation against Boko Haram terrorist group along the Niger-Nigeria border.
Brigadier General Abdou Sidikou Issa, the tactical chief of staff for troops based in Niger’s troubled Diffa region, said Tuesday that the operations began in secret almost a week ago to recapture al of the Boko Haram-held territoris.
“Our role is to firmly secure the border,” he said.
Chad is and Nigeria are leading members of a multi-national force fighting the Nigeria-based Boko Haram terrorist group that has extended its attacks to neighboring countries of the Lake Chad Basin, including Niger, Chad and Cameroon.
The repeated attacks by Boko Haram have growing humanitarian consequences for countries of the Lake Chad Basin area as over nine million displaced people now need assistance; therefore regional countries have created a joint military force that plays a key role in helping Nigeria fight the terrorist group.
Last week AFP cited a military source as saying that Some 2,000 troops from regional military powerhouse Chad headed to neighboring Niger after Boko Haram terrorists inflicted heavy losses on the town of Bosso.
Back in February, the four littoral nations of Lake based launched a military campaign, together with a contingent from Benin, to confront the threat from Boko Haram.
The terror group has pledged allegiance to ISIS terrorist group that is mainly wreaking havoc in Syria and Iraq.
