Alwaght- An explosives-laden car blast left at least 21 people dead and scores of others injured on Saturday in a residential neighborhood in the capital, Baghdad.
As the pilgrims were heading to Imam Kazim’s shrine, seventh Shiites' imam (PBUH), on Baghdad’s northern neighborhood of Kadhimiya to commemorate his martyrdom anniversary, the car bomb was detonated on the side of the road which killed at least 21 people and injured 40 others.
The sources added that the death toll is expected to rise as some of the wounded are in critical condition.
There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack,while ISIS terrorists has claimed similar attacks targeting Shiite pilgrims and civilians in Baghdad's Shiite neighborhoods.
Recently Iraq has seen an upsurge in violence, with a number of suicide attacks taking place in and around Baghdad.
The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by violence ever since ISIS Takfiri terrorists occupied that region in June 2014.
According to the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), a total of 670 Iraqis lost their lives since two months ago while 1,290 others were injured.
