ALWAGHT- Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, has urged “strategic” ties with Islamabad during talks with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
Ali Larijani arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday and was received by Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. In their meeting, Larijani stressed the need to upgrade Iran-Pakistan ties to a “strategic level,” emphasizing that both countries have far greater economic potential than what is currently utilized.
Larijani urged the removal of barriers to economic cooperation and highlighted the achievability of increasing bilateral trade to $10 billion. Ishaq Dar welcomed Larijani’s appointment as Iran’s top security official and reaffirmed the importance of the brotherly relationship between Tehran and Islamabad, referencing recent high-level diplomatic contacts.
Both sides underscored the need for coordinated action within the Islamic world to address regional crises, particularly threats posed by Israel. They identified Palestine as a central priority, stressing unity and joint efforts in supporting the Palestinian people.
Larijani told reporters that the talks covered economic progress, bilateral cooperation, and regional developments. During his visit, he is set to meet Pakistan’s parliamentary and government leaders to advance cooperation on security, counter-terrorism, trade, and regional stability. He praised Pakistan’s historical friendship with Iran and recalled its support during the US-Israeli attacks on Iran in June.
