ALWAGHT- Iran’s foreign minister called on the United States to respect Iran’s people and their political system, stating that military threats, sanctions, and pressure have proven ineffective and cautioning that repeating such measures would produce the same outcome.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized Iran’s readiness to confront any potential military aggression from the United States or Israel. He noted that psychological warfare is currently being used to create fear and unrest in Iranian society, but stressed that Iran remains fully prepared to defend itself. Araghchi recalled the 12-day conflict as a failed attempt by the US and Israel to achieve their objectives, warning that repeating such actions would lead to the same outcome.
Araghchi stressed that Iran prefers diplomacy over conflict and remains open to negotiations if counterparts engage with equality and mutual respect. He highlighted that past US and Israeli military threats, as well as sanctions, have been ineffective in undermining Iran’s nuclear program or the will of its people. Iran’s nuclear technology, developed domestically, cannot be eliminated through bombing or attacks, and the nation remains resilient despite previous facility damages.
Regarding retaliatory actions, Araghchi clarified that Iran’s strikes target US military bases, not host countries like Qatar, emphasizing that any future retaliation would be directed at American forces. He criticized the lack of trust in US negotiation intentions, citing broken agreements and unilateral demands, while reaffirming Iran’s willingness to pursue peaceful resolutions if negotiations are conducted fairly. He also criticized European countries for complicating diplomatic efforts through renewed sanctions and Security Council actions.
Araghchi reiterated that the Iranian people and their political system must be respected, warning the US against interference or attempts at regime change. He highlighted Iran’s national cohesion and independence, asserting that no external power can determine the country’s governance or future. Stressing Iran’s strength and resilience, he concluded that the nation is capable of standing against powerful adversaries and defending its sovereignty and achievements.
