ALWAGHT- Iran has condemned a US-drafted UN Security Council resolution imposing a foreign oversight mechanism on Gaza, warning that it infringes on the Palestinian people’s basic rights.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry criticized UN Security Council Resolution 2803, saying its drafters “consciously ignored” previous UN resolutions and the central role of the United Nations in addressing the Palestinian issue. The resolution, passed Monday, endorses the creation of an “International Stabilization Force” (ISF) in Gaza under a 20-point plan proposed by former US President Donald Trump, aimed at ending Israel’s military actions in Gaza.
The ministry expressed serious concern that parts of the resolution impose a “guardianship system” over Gaza, undermining Palestinians’ fundamental rights, including self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with al-Quds as its capital. It warned that any measure legitimizing occupation or dividing Gaza contradicts Palestinian aspirations and could have dangerous consequences.
Iran reaffirmed its support for initiatives to end Israeli aggression, facilitate humanitarian aid, and ensure the full withdrawal of occupying forces. It stressed that any international forces must operate strictly under UN supervision, with roles limited to ceasefire monitoring and aid distribution, and emphasized that the Palestinian people must lead all discussions regarding their territories.
The statement also highlighted Israel’s continued violations of the Gaza ceasefire, reaffirmed the legitimacy of Palestinian resistance under international law, and criticized the Security Council for its inaction over the past two years. It underscored the Council’s responsibility to hold war criminals accountable and warned against external imposition of solutions, stressing that the US-brokered ceasefire and the broader 20-point plan remain ongoing processes.
