Alwaght- The US-led coalition’s fighter jets have carried out airstrikes on a Syrian army’s headquarter located east of the country, followed by terrorist group ISIS’ fighters immediately launching an attack against the same military post. The Americans have denied that they targeted the Syrian army positions, but the evidences suggest that Washington and its allies have once again launched airstrikes against the military force which holds the key stage in fighting against terrorism in the region.
Early on Monday, the local sources and media outlets reported that the
US-led fighters carried out airstrikes against a Syria army’s post in Deir
ez-Zor province, east of the country. Sources at Syria’s 104th
Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard have informed that the US warplane
targeted the Syrian army’s 137th Artillery Brigade’s headquarters
located in the country’s Ayash village.
Following the event, the Syrian Foreign Ministry has released a statement
on Monday, condemning the US-led coalition's airstriking of Syria's army post
in Deir ez-Zor, announcing that the attack killed four army troops and 13
others were wounded. Damascus has described the move as an aggression against
Syria's sovereignty, demanding the UN to show reaction. Also, the sources close
to the Syrian opposition groups including Syrian Observatory for Human Rights
have confirmed the US-led attack.
The Americans deny
Despite all the news, the US officials have denied any conducting any
attack against the Syrian army's base in Deir ez-Zor province. “We’ve seen
those Syrian reports but we did not conduct any strikes in that part of Deir
ez-Zor yesterday. So we see no evidence," said Colonel Steve Warren,
spokesman for the international coalition. But, the Syrian media refused the US
claims. They pointed out that the Syrian Arab Army have been in control of the
Ayash military base for the entirety of the war, questioning if it was a
purposely attack.
But, the event that added to the ambiguity of the Monday airstrikes was
ISIS terror group's conducting an array of attacks on the same Syrian army base
in Deir ez-Zor province instantly following the attack by the US-led
coalition." It has been confirmed that ISIS immediately attacked Ayash military
base following the airstrikes", reported Al-Masdar news website. The
coalition's strikes at the Syrian military forces' base come while the army
forces stationed at the post were tasked with protecting the Ayash village's
inhabitants against the ISIS' terror militants. The targeted region is only two
kilometers apart from the ISIS-held areas. The ISIS terror militants are trying
to launch an offensive against the center of Deir ez-Zor province from the
northern side. The analysts believe that such US airstrikes would help ISIS
strengthen its position in the region. A huge part of Deir ez-Zor province is
held by the ISIS terror group while the Syrian government's forces hold a small
part of the province, including its center. Meanwhile, the Russian fighter jets
conducted a set of airstrikes on the ISIS' positions following US-led targeting
of the Syrian forces, the news outlets suggested.
Mistake repeated
It is not the first time that the US and alllies are targeting forces
playing key role in counter-ISIS fight. Two weeks ago Turkey, a NATO member,
has shot down a Russian bomber in northern Syria. Russia's warplane was en
route to the military base in Syria's Lattakia province after delivering
strikes on ISIS positions east of the country. Some Western politicians have
spoken out against such West's moves." our leaders are taking us into a
major war, not against ISIS but against those fighting ISIS, namely Syria,
Russia, Iran", posted George Galloway, the former member of the British
parliament, on his Twitter page. The observers believe that despite growing
ISIS threats, the West is not willing to obliterate the extremist organization,
but it is struggling to bring the group under control.
"Sham" counter-terror war
The strike agaist the Syrian army's base came just hours after Barack Obama
reiterated fighting against ISIS in Iraq and Syria. The US President on Monday
morning once again talked about countering the terrorist group, renewing pledge
to destroy ISIS. The US President said that they knew that terrorism threat was
serious but they would defeat it. He added that they would destroy ISIS or any
other terrorist group which aimed to harm them. Deliberating on what he called
an anti-ISIS strategy, Obama noted that the US army would continue pursuing the
terror attacks' planners in any country should the need arises. Obama added
that the US airstrikes in Iraq and Syria were targeting ISIS' chiefs, heavy
armoury, the oil tankers and their infrastructures. But he warned that they
should not be dragged once again into a long and costly ground operation in
Syria or Iraq. Pointing to the US actions including refraining from striking
ISIS' oil convoys, the critics have played down the US President's claims,
arguing that the West does not seek fighting ISIS organization in West Asia.
Resistance makes advances
Despite the West's and its allies' misconducts, the Resistance forces have
kept on pressing ahead with their advances in different parts of Syria drawing
on the Russian influential airstrikes, and they, yesterday, managed to regain
control of Sahl al-Ghab's eastern mountains in Hama province. The Sahl al-Ghab
region is of strategic significance, located in the center of triangle made by
the three provinces of Idlib, Homs and Lattakia. Also, the Al Mayadeen news channel
has reported that the Syrian army's forces backed by the allied forces have
managed to bring some parts of Aleppo-Damascus Highway close to their control.
On Monday, the Syrian military forces also succeded in regaining control over
al-Hamra, Khalsa, Zeytan and al-Ghalajya towns, reported Al Mayadeen. The
Lebanon-based news channel also reported that the Syrian forces along with
Lebanese Hezbollah's forces recaptured Acou and Bouz al-Hattab in Lattakia
province.
