Alwaght- A Kuwaiti court on Monday sentenced five people to 10 years in prison each for financing ISIS terrorist group.
The men were charged with raising about 400,000 Kuwaiti dinars ($1.3 million) and transferring the funds to ISIS terrorists, which has seized control of large parts of Syria and Iraq and carried out attacks throughout the West Asia region and North Africa.
Three of those convicted were Kuwaiti citizens, according to the court ruling.
The court ordered that the remaining two, who were foreigners, be deported after serving the jail term. Their nationalities were not immediately clear.
Over the past year, Kuwaiti courts have issued several rulings against ISIS supporters.
In September, a lower court in the Persian Gulf state sentenced seven people, including five in absentia, to death for helping a Saudi terrorist carry out an attack on a Shiite mosque in Kuwait that killed 26 worshipers and wounded hundreds in June.
A month later Kuwaiti authorities revealed that the country's security forces dismantled a terrorist network affiliated to the ISIS terrorist group.
Kuwaiti authorities say, 'the apprehended terrorists confessed in interrogation to receiving educational course about the deviating doctrine of ISIS terrorist group and undergoing military training before they had gotten involved in fighting in Syria and Iraq.' Security personnel found 'Takfiri books' with contents urging fighting and carrying out terrorists acts in addition to an ISIS flag. 'Takfiri' is an Arabic word that indicates rejection of religious beliefs of other Muslims.
