Iranian Officials Congratulate Iraq on Mosul Liberation, Defeat of ISIS

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri

High ranking Iranian officials have sent congratulatory messages to the Iraqi government following the full liberation of Mosul from ISIS Takfiri terrorist group.

Alwaght- High ranking Iranian officials have sent congratulatory messages to the Iraqi nation and government following the full liberation of the city of Mosul from ISIS Takfiri terrorist group.

The Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri in his message described the liberation of Mosul as the manifestation of national unity and resistance. He expressed confidence that close cooperation between the armed forces of Iran and Iraq would foil the plots by the “hegemonic and trans-regional powers and enemies of the Islamic community.”

Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan congratulated his Iraqi counterpart and Hadi al-Ameri on the liberation of Mosul. “This great victory which foiled the plots by the US and the usurping Zionist regime (of Israel) in Iraq will lead to the complete defeat of the strategy of proxy war waged by the hegemony in the region, God willing,” Dehqan said in the message to his Iraqi counterpart.

And in the message to Ameri, the Iranian defense minister expressed the hope that the brave Popular Mobilization Forces would preserve their preparedness and solidarity “in the post-ISIS era” to contribute to Iraq’s security and progress.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Sunday declared victory over the ISIS Takfiri terrorist group in Mosul after over eight months of intense fighting to liberate the key city.

“The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces (Prime Minister) Haider al-Abadi, arrived in the liberated city of Mosul and congratulated the heroic fighters and the Iraqi people on the great victory," a statement from his office read on Sunday

The long-awaited victory in Mosul ends an eight-month campaign backed by Popular Mobilization Forces (PMU), commonly known in Arabic as Hashd al-Sha’abi, which has displaced nearly one millions civilians.

In his message of congratulations following the liberation of Mosul, Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif posted a message in his official twitter account stating: “Congratulations to brave people and Government of Iraq upon liberation of Mosul. When Iraqis join hands, no limits to what they can achieve.”

It was a “great achievement in the path to ending the presence and savage actions of the criminal ISIS group against the Iraqi nation”, said Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, in messages to Iraqi Prime Minster and Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, the country’s most revered cleric.

“The government, armed forces and the brave nation of Islamic Iran… are prepared to offer aid to the displaced and injured in the war and help rebuild the cities and vital infrastructure in the country,” Shamkhani said.
