Alwaght- The so-called Free Syrian Army (FAS) militant group is expecting heavy weapons from its foreign supporters, a commander told Reuters on Saturday.
The development comes as Syrian army has gained new victories against terrorists and militant groups in different parts of the country and foiled a major attack against its positions in Aleppo.
The FSA is expecting the delivery of more “heavy weapons, such as rocket launchers and artillery” from their foreign sponsors, Colonel Fares al-Bayoush, head of the Northern Division of the militant group said.
The group has long asked for anti-aircraft missiles but he said he is not sure if the foreign supporters will supply the demand this time.
The US, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey have been the active supporters of the militant group for years.
There are “indications and promises” of more weapons, the militant leader said, but claimed that any increase in arms support for them would be "slight".
Washington characterizes some militant groups as “moderate” to justify training them by the Central Intelligence Agency and providing them with arms, including anti-tank missiles.
