ALWAGHT- Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, stated that any talks on Iran’s nuclear program must ensure the end of sanctions and the normalization of its trade.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, emphasized that the primary demand in any negotiations with the US is the removal of sanctions in a tangible way. He pointed out that all sanctions imposed on Iran are considered illegal and unjustifiable by the country. Baghaei stressed that the removal of sanctions must allow Iran to engage in normal trade and banking activities.
Reflecting on the experience with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Baghaei noted that the US had failed to uphold its commitments under the deal. He stressed that any potential agreement must come with guarantees that the outcomes will be lasting and that all parties will honor their obligations.
Regarding Iran’s interactions with other JCPOA members, Baghaei confirmed that China, Russia, and the European powers are kept informed of the talks with the US. He noted that despite the ongoing negotiations, these five countries remain part of the JCPOA under UN Security Council Resolution 2231. Technical talks will continue in Muscat on April 23, with high-level meetings set for April 26.
