ALWAGHT- The second round of indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the United States took place in Rome on Saturday, with a reporter describing the atmosphere as "positive."
Following productive talks in Rome, Iran, the United States, and Oman are expected to hold a third round of indirect nuclear negotiations in the coming days, according to IRIB. The discussions were led by Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US envoy Steve Witkoff, with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi acting as mediator. The session lasted over four hours and was held at the Omani ambassador’s residence in Rome, with both delegations seated in separate rooms.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei emphasized Iran’s serious and prepared approach to the talks, stating that they would continue as long as the discussions remain constructive. He reaffirmed Iran's peaceful nuclear intentions and reiterated the country’s core demand: the removal of unlawful sanctions with firm guarantees. Araghchi also met with Italy’s foreign minister ahead of the talks to discuss bilateral ties and broader regional issues.
The Omani foreign minister played an active role throughout the day, relaying messages between the Iranian and US teams. Araghchi praised Italy for hosting the second round and, in earlier comments from Moscow, indicated that a deal with the US is achievable—provided Washington avoids unrealistic demands and shows genuine commitment to the process.
