The Western Double Standards: The case of Saudi

America's Role in the Rise of Extremism in the West Asia

Alwaght- West sheds crocodile tears for Aleppo, this is one of the headlines of the mainstream media and breaking news about Aleppo. The media and some Western officials raise growing speculations over the possibility of a humanitarian disaster in Aleppo, and claim that they are concerned about the conditions of the Syrian residents and one should somehow stop the humanitarian disaster.

Michael Grant Ignatieff, and Leon Wieseltier in a note on the website of the Washington Post criticizing Obama's foreign policy in Syria due to lack of military intervention in Syria, wrote: "For those who care about the moral status of United States, the time has come to tell this policy is shameful. If the United States and its NATO allies allow their new allies to lay siege to the people of Aleppo and starve them to death, they are committing war crimes." The authors emphasized that the US under the umbrella of NATO and taking advantage of their air and naval power can create a no-fly zone in northern Syria to protect Aleppo. This is how the US leadership should appear in the 21st century: ‘the simultaneous use of force and diplomacy, commitment and strategic courage about a humanitarian goal that can bring about world support and recognition."

Ignatieff, and Leon Wieseltier in their note made no mention of the fact that Aleppo is now in the hands of Jabhat al-Nusra (al-Nosra front), the Syrian branch of Al-Qaeda, a group that based on UN Security Council resolutions as well as the US Civil laws, is regarded as a terrorist group. On the other hand, while the US and the West warn others about the humanitarian crisis and war crimes, claiming leadership in the field of ethics, over the past few years, their true nature has been uncovered for everyone, particularly during the crisis in Yemen. During the war that began more than 10 months ago, Saudi Arabia in direct and indirect cooperation with the West, particularly Britain and the US, has repeatedly violated the humanitarian principles. Saudis’ crimes before the eyes of the US, has also sparked the protests of human rights organizations.

On Monday, 26 February, Steve Goose, director of Human Rights Watch's Arms Division said: "Saudi Arabia and its allies in the Saudi-led coalition, in addition to the US which provides them with the arms, have violated the international standards prohibiting the use of these weapons under any conditions." Meanwhile, an organization called ‘Human Rights Challenges’ declared in a statement that the US-made ammunition has recently been transferred to Yemen, and they are used in residential areas, this is clearly against the US export regulations and international laws.” These are only a small part of the evidence which show that Americans not only do not care about human values, but also as the history has shown, the West uses these principles as a means and a pretext to legitimize their intrusive actions and resort to militarily intervention.
