ALWAGHT- Outgoing President Joe Biden's policy has faced widespread criticism for damaging the US' global reputation, mainly due to its steadfast backing of 'Israel.'
Former UK Ambassador to Syria, Peter Ford, criticized President Joe Biden’s Middle East policy, labeling it a failure that has weakened the United States’ global influence. He argued that while Biden's policies may have advanced "Israel's" interests, such as humbling Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, and causing regime change in Syria, they did not serve American interests. Ford emphasized that Biden’s unwavering support for "Israel," especially regarding the Gaza conflict, has led to a significant decline in the US’s global standing and further solidified adversarial alliances in the region.
Ford further noted that Biden squandered the opportunity to avoid conflict with Iran by failing to revive the Iran nuclear deal, a move that could have stabilized relations. He also pointed to Biden's withdrawal from Afghanistan as his only sensible policy, though it was heavily criticized by Washington's military establishment. Regarding Donald Trump, Ford suggested that while Trump’s future Middle East policies could reflect Biden's mistakes, he might still deliver unexpected results, such as pressuring "Israel" for concessions, as hinted by Netanyahu’s recent actions regarding Gaza.
In addition, a letter signed by over 400 political appointees and employees from various US government departments expressed disapproval of Biden’s uncritical support for "Israel" and its actions in Gaza. The letter highlighted that the majority of Americans favored a ceasefire and opposed further US military involvement in the Middle East. Some critics accused Biden of shifting his policies away from representing American voters’ concerns, opting instead to dismiss them in favor of supporting "Israel."
