Alwaght- Israeli forces have killed a Palestinian driver after a truck-ramming attack at a checkpoint in the occupied West Bank.
The Palestinian ran over Israelis on Thursday morning with a truck near the Maccabim checkpoint west of the city of Ramallah and fled the scene, according to Israeli media reports, Iran's Press TV reported citing informed sources.
Then, he drove toward the nearby Hashmonaim checkpoint, where he was shot by Israeli forces.
The Israeli police said the Palestinian was in his 40s with an Israeli work permit.
One Israeli was also killed and five others wounded, including three soldiers, in the attack.
The attack came as tensions have remained high across the occupied West Bank, amid a string of near-nightly raids by the Israeli army and attacks by extremist settlers as well as Palestinian retaliatory operations.
At least 230 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since the start of the year.
Hamas spokesman Abdul Latif al-Qanou said, “The occupation army and its settlers will continue to pay the price for the crimes of their extremist government. The resistance of our people will continue to escalate.”
