Alwaght- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has warned the Western states against any military action against his country would destabilize global peace.

President Assad was speaking at a Thursday meeting with Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior advisor to Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, which took place shortly after Eastern Ghouta’s liberation was announced.

“With every victory achieved on the field, the voices of some Western states are raised and actions are intensified in an attempt by them to change the course of events,” Syrian official news agency, SANA, quoted Assad as saying.

“These voices and any possible action will contribute nothing but an increase in instability in the region, threatening international peace and security,” the Syrian leader added.

Velyati, in turn, pointed to the threats by the US and its allies to attack Syria under the pretext of “responding” to an alleged chemical attack, saying such threats “based on lies after the liberation of Eastern Ghouta.” Iran provides military advisory assistance to the Syrian army in its anti-terrorism operations. During an earlier press conference with Syrian Minister of Religious Endowments (Awqaf) Mohammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed, Velayati said that the Syrian government is achieving successive victories which he hoped will be pursued to liberate the entire Syrian territory from terrorists, including Idleb, and expel the US occupiers. He added that the terrorist attack orchestrated by the Zionists, the US and the reactionary regimes in the region on Syria was aimed at undermining Syria’s role as an important player in the resistance axis.

Velayati said that his talks with the Syrian officials during his recent visit focused on bilateral relations which he described as historic and solid, pointing out that Syria and Iran’s cooperation with the rest of the countries in the resistance axis is an influential factor to roll back the influence of the United States and Zionists in the region.
