Alwaght- United States President Donald Trump is using "fake evidence" to spread Iranophobia, the Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif has said.
"In the fake news department, Trump & Co. attempt to create an Iranphobic narrative at the UN Security Council -- through winning and dining fake evidence provided by a warring neighbor," Iran's top diplomat said in a post on his official Twitter account on Monday.
He added that such efforts would only seem acceptable to "the same desperate neighbor and its accomplices in war crimes," in what was a clear reference to Saudi Arabia that has waged a brutal aggression on neighboring Yemen since August 2015.
Zarif's comments came after the US president addressed a lunch meeting with members of the United Nations Security Council, accusing Iran once again of destabilizing West Asia and providing Yemen’s Ansarullah movement with ballistic missiles.
On December 14, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley presented what she claimed to be "undeniable" evidence, including the allegedly recovered pieces of a Yemeni missile, saying it proved that Iran was violating international law by giving missiles to the Ansarullah movement. The Ansarullah movement backed by the Yemen army and tribal fighters have been repelling a Saudi-led aggression since March 2015.
Early January, the top commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) dismissed the allegations leveled by the US and its allies about the Islamic Republic’s provision of missiles to Yemeni forces.
"Missiles fired at Saudi Arabia belong to Yemen which have been overhauled and their range have been increased," Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari said.
He added that there is no possibility at all that the Islamic Republic could transfer missiles to Yemen.
He said the US and its puppets have so far spread many lies and leveled many allegations against Iran.
