ALWAGHT- The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that Iran regards Oman as the top candidate to host indirect negotiations with the US.
During a press conference on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei discussed the possibility of indirect talks between Iran and the US, stating that Oman is the primary candidate to host such negotiations if they take place. He also denied rumors about the start of indirect talks, dismissing reports of a new negotiation committee as speculative.
Baghaei confirmed that Iran had responded to a letter from US President Donald Trump and is awaiting Washington’s decision. He emphasized that Iran’s proposal for indirect talks is both generous and pragmatic, taking into account the history of nuclear negotiations. The Iranian government remains focused on the terms it has put forward for the talks.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated Iran's willingness to negotiate its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions, calling for trust-building in the process. He criticized the US for its withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal and its contradictory policies of advocating for talks while simultaneously threatening force. Despite these contradictions, Iran remains open to testing the waters of indirect negotiations.
