Alwaght- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister has warned that any slip-up on the Korean Peninsula issue may lead to a military outbreak.
Speaking at a BRICS summit in China’s eastern city of Xiamen on Monday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said "There should be no room for escalation," he said. "Those who are smarter and stronger should show restraint. Given the current situation, any miscalculation may lead to a political or military outbreak, rather than to a nuclear test like the one recently conducted, which actually reflects the deteriorating situation in Northeast Asia".
Ryabkov also said that political and diplomatic means were the only way to resolve the North Korea issue.
"We believe that Pyongyang should stop its provocative actions, which destabilize the situation, but after saying this, I cannot but point out that this protracted crisis can only be resolved through political and diplomatic means," the diplomat emphasized.
Elsewhere, Ryabkov has said Russia will need to react to the expansion of the so-called US Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-missile system in South Korea, as Seoul urges Washington to install more of the missile shield system in alleged response to the fresh nuclear test by Pyongyang.
“It inevitably will raise the question about our reaction, about our military balances,” said Ryabkov
United States President Donald Trump is embroiled in a bitter war of words with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un further fueling tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
North Korea sparked further fears of World War 3 after announcing early Sunday it had successfully tested a high-powered hydrogen bomb capable of being mounted on an intercontinental ballistic missile.
In reaction, Trump refused to rule out military action, which included the “total annihilation” of the Asian nation.
The US President left all options on the table when he was asked if he would react with military force to North Korea’s latest weapons test, telling reporters: “We’ll see.”
North Korea blames the US for escalating tensions in the region through its provocative military drills. Pyongyang insists that it is developing nuclear weapons to deal with growing threats posed by the US.
