ALWAGHT- During high-level talks in Tehran, Iran’s secretary of the Supreme National Security Council and Russia’s deputy prime minister for transport emphasized the importance of fast-tracking the implementation of the strategic North–South Corridor.
Iranian official Ali Larijani met with Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister for Transport, Vitaly Savelyev, at the Supreme National Security Council in Tehran to discuss advancing the North–South Transport Corridor. The meeting followed agreements between the presidents of Iran and Russia, focusing on removing obstacles and moving the project into its operational phase. Both sides highlighted the corridor’s significance as a key component of regional connectivity.
Larijani affirmed Iran’s commitment to operationalizing the corridor, promising to resolve all executive and institutional hurdles and finalize the necessary legal and operational agreements. He added that all land along the corridor’s route would be acquired by year’s end to ensure uninterrupted progress. Savelyev welcomed Iran’s approach and reiterated Russia’s readiness to accelerate the project.
Both countries emphasized the corridor as part of a broader strategy to strengthen Iran–Russia cooperation and establish independent regional connectivity routes. They also agreed to activate high-level follow-up mechanisms and maintain ongoing coordination between relevant institutions. Earlier, Presidents Pezeshkian and Putin discussed the corridor during an international conference in Ashgabat, with Iran pledging full preparation for the project’s implementation by the end of the year.
