Alwaght- The Israeli regime is spraying poisonous substances on Palestinian farms in the eastern parts of the besieged Gaza Strip.
Palestinian farmers on Tuesday reported that Israeli regime drones have sprayed poisonous pesticides on their crops.
They said that crops targeted for destructions include melons, watermelons, okra, and wheat fields close to Israeli checkpoints. Local farmers have said that Israeli troops spray weed killers to dry wild plants around security fences in order to have clear vision to watch the area, but they usually spray dozens of meters around their targeted areas, killing and damaging Palestinian crops.
In January, a similar incident occurred in Khan Yunis, where Israeli regime forces sprayed weed killers on crops and burnt them.
The Israeli regime has ignored calls by human rights groups to stop poisoning Palestinian farm produce under the pretext of getting rid of wild plants and weeds.
The Gaza Strip has been under an inhuman Israeli imposed siege since 2007. On Monday, a European human rights group warned that Israel’s blockade on the Gaza Strip has brought the enclave to the brink of total collapse. “The humanitarian situation of more than two million Palestinians trapped in Gaza is getting worse day after day,” said Ramy Abdu, director of the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor in Geneva.
Abdu warned that Israel’s policies to restrict the movement of people and goods, to prevent travel permits for treatment, to restrict the entry of medicines and building materials, in addition to growing poverty and unemployment, “cast a serious shadow over the fate and future of the Palestinians”.
He pointed out that the Gaza Strip is one of the most densely populated areas in the world, “and the continuation of the siege will inflict severe psychological and social pressure on the population.”
