ALWAGHT- The Iranian envoy to the UN rejected what he described as “unfounded” assertions about Iran in a recent PGCC statement.
In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Security Council President Eloy Alfaro de Alba on August 4, Iran’s UN Ambassador Saeed Iravani reaffirmed his country’s full sovereignty over the islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb in the Persian Gulf. He firmly rejected references made in a recent Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) statement, calling them baseless and an unacceptable interference in Iran’s internal affairs.
Iravani also rejected PGCC claims regarding the Arash oil field, asserting Iran’s sovereign rights based on historical and legal grounds. He criticized any unilateral actions by Kuwait as unlawful and urged constructive negotiations to reach a fair, legal, and mutually beneficial agreement over the shared resource.
The ambassador further denounced the PGCC’s references to Iran’s foreign policy, nuclear program, and missile capabilities, emphasizing that Iran acts in accordance with international law and is committed to regional cooperation. He highlighted that Iran’s defense posture, especially in light of recent attacks by Israel and the US, is essential for national and regional security.
