ALWAGHT- According to Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Iran is on high alert and ready to protect itself if the Israeli regime breaks the “fragile” ceasefire that brought an end to 12 days of attacks last month.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned Israel’s 12-day military campaign against Iran as unprovoked aggression, not merely a conflict. He emphasized Iran’s right to self-defense and credited the country’s courageous response with forcing Israel to accept a fragile ceasefire. Araghchi expressed skepticism about Israel’s commitment to the ceasefire but affirmed that Iran is fully prepared to respond if hostilities resume, though it does not desire continued war.
The conflict escalated further when the US struck three Iranian nuclear facilities, violating international law, prompting Iran to retaliate by targeting strategic sites in occupied territories and the US al-Udeid air base in Qatar. These Iranian actions helped halt the Israeli-US assault by June 24. Despite these tensions, Araghchi stressed Iran’s willingness to resume nuclear talks with the US, but only if there is genuine intent for a mutually beneficial solution.
Araghchi highlighted the importance of diplomacy over military action, criticizing the US strikes on nuclear facilities as evidence that a military approach is ineffective. He called for the US to abandon military options and compensate for damages caused before negotiations can proceed. He underscored that serious commitment from the other side is essential to reach a negotiated agreement on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.
