Turkey Suspends 20 Interior Ministry Officials over Coup Allegations

Turkish Interior Ministry suspended 20 more of its officials over alleged links to the July failed coup attempt.

Alwaght- Turkish Interior Ministry suspended 20 more of its officials over alleged links to the July failed coup attempt.

The ministry issued a short statement on Sunday saying the officials were suspended due to their links with Fetullah Gullen, the US-based cleric that Ankara holds responsible for the failed coup attempt in July.

Tagging the opposition leader and his supporters as the “Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO)”, Ankara believes the 75-Year-old opposition was the mastermind of the coup attempt when several units of the military took tanks to the streets to topple the government of President Reccep Tayyip Erdogan that failed when Erdogan’s supporters confronted them.

The ministry's short statement did not say exactly who was suspended and from which province.

Ankara's ongoing crackdown on dissent has met fierce criticism of many countries and international bodies that accuse Erdogan of abusing the coup to consolidate his power, using the failed attempt as an excuse.

The purge of opposition forces has been too extensive where Ankara even detained a number of the country's Parliament Members that sparked an international condemnation including the EU warning and the Germany summoning Turkish ambassador.
