Iran Embassy’s Consular Section in Damascus Comes under Israeli Missile Attack

Alwaght- The United Nations Security Council convened to discuss the Monday Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy's consular section building in Damascus.

The emergency meeting was called for by Iran and was officially requested by Russia as the permanent member of the body.

Addressing the event on Tuesday in New York, the US, Iran’s mission to the UN called on the world body to categorically denounce Israel’s violation of international regulations.

Zahra Ershadi, Iran’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, said Israel is seeking to escalate tensions in the region while avoiding full responsibility for its actions.

She said the regime defies Security Council resolutions and shows disregard for its international obligations.

She added that Monday’s crime also clearly breached the basic principle of diplomatic and consular immunity, as well as the 1961 Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, and the 1973 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes.

In the session, Russia condemned in strongest terms the Israeli attack on the diplomatic building.

Vasily Nebenyza, Russia's representative at the United Nations, called Israel's attack on the Iranian consular building and other places in Syria absolutely "unacceptable."

He said: "We requested this meeting of the Security Council to investigate the missile attacks and bombings of the Israeli army in different areas of Syria."

"The aim of Israel's actions is to inflame the conflicts. These actions are unacceptable and must be stopped," he said.

After the statement of the Russian representative, the Chinese representative condemned Israel's action. He said Israel's action in attacking the Iranian embassy building is a clear violation of the Charter of United Nations and international laws.

Ambassador Zhang Jun said that attack was a violation of sovereignty of the two countries of Iran and Syria.

Jun said the attack was "extremely evil" in nature.

The representative of Algeria, while expressing his condolences for the martyrdom of some Iranians in the Israeli attack on the Iranian consular building in Damascus, described it as a flagrant violation of international laws.

He said that such cases of violation of international obligations by the occupying regime of Israel cannot be justified and tolerated.

"The purpose of such a deliberate action is clear: To espond to international pressure by escalating conflicts, it is clear that the purpose of this action is to drag the entire region into conflict, and it shows feeling of immunity by Israel which considers itself above international law," Algerian diplomat said.

Western countries including the US, France, and Britain, however, declined to condemn Israeli regime and even blamed Iran for what they said escalation in regional tensions.
