Alwaght- The UN Security Council will hold an open meeting, requested by Russia, on the Israeli strike at an Iranian diplomatic facility in Syria on April 2, Tass news agency cited Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky as announcing.
"After Israel's airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus today, Iranians have turned to the UN Security Council to condemn this action. Following their letter we have requested an open briefing of the UN Security Council. The Maltese presidency has scheduled it for 3:00 PM New York time (10:00 PM Moscow time) on April 2nd," he said on social media.
Iran also called for the emergency meeting of the UNSC as the attack violated the international laws that grants full immunity to the diplomatic missions.
Iranian president condemned the attack and vowed it will not go unanswered.
The Iranian foreign minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian said that the foreign ministry summoned the Swiss ambassador as the protector of the American interests in Iran and protested the attack. He added that Iran passed an "important message" to the US as the backer of the Israeli regime.
Waves of condemnation have been pouring against Tel Aviv.
Russia was among the top sides to condemn.
"We strongly condemn this attack on the Iranian consular mission in Syria," Russia's foreign ministry said. "Such aggressive actions by Israel are absolutely unacceptable and must be stopped."
"We urge the Israeli leadership to abandon the practice of provocative military actions on the territory of Syria and other neighboring countries," it said.
