Alwaght- North Korea has vowed that the more sanctions pursued by the US and its allies, the more quickly it will complete its nuclear weapons program.
The latest sanctions represent “the most vicious, unethical and inhumane act of hostility to physically exterminate the people of the DPRK (North Korea), let alone its system and government,” a foreign ministry spokesman said, as cited by official state news agency KCNA.
The most recent UN sanctions include capping crude oil supplies to North Korea at present levels and reductions in other commodities. They also include banning textile imports.
The sanctions were enacted after North Korea launched its sixth and most powerful nuclear test earlier this month.
US President Donald Trump poked fun at North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Sunday, calling him “Rocket Man” and stating that long gas lines had formed in North Korea as a result of the sanctions.
As Trump delivers harsh messages to Kim, Russia and China have warned urged all warring parties to avoid unnecessary escalation of the already tense Korea Peninsula situation.
On Saturday North Korea said announced it was seeking military "equilibrium" with the US as its leader Kim Jong-Un vowed to complete Pyongyang's nuclear program.
North Korea successfully fired a Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missile over Japan on Friday, responding to a new round of UN sanctions over its sixth nuclear test with its furthest-ever missile flight.
"Our final goal is to establish the equilibrium of real force with the US and make the US rulers dare not talk about military option for the DPRK," Kim said.
North Korea blames the US for escalating tensions in the region through its provocative military drills. Pyongyang insists that it is developing nuclear weapons to deal with growing threats posed by the US.
