ALWAGHT- At least three Iranian police officers lost their lives in a firefight with unidentified attackers at a security checkpoint in Kerman.
An armed clash occurred late Monday at a security checkpoint near the entrance to Fahraj County, where unknown gunmen exchanged fire with Iranian law enforcement forces, according to the IRGC Ground Force’s Quds Base. The checkpoint is located on a road linking Fahraj to Zahedan in neighboring Sistan and Baluchestan province, near the Pakistani border.
The confrontation resulted in multiple fatalities, including members of the security forces and one civilian who was caught in the crossfire. Authorities said security and law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation and a manhunt is underway to apprehend the attackers.
The incident follows a series of deadly attacks in southeastern Iran, including the killing of three IRGC personnel earlier this month and a major assault last year that left 10 police officers dead. Iranian officials say militant groups operating in the region are believed to have links to foreign intelligence services, with Jaish al-Adl claiming responsibility for some of the deadliest attacks.
