ALWAGHT- Amid rising international concern over RSF atrocities, calls are increasing for a boycott of the UAE due to its support for the paramilitary group.
Calls to boycott the United Arab Emirates have intensified following the Rapid Support Forces’ violent takeover of El Fasher in North Darfur, Sudan. The UAE-backed militia committed widespread atrocities, with preliminary reports estimating over 2,000 civilian deaths within hours, including executions and people burned alive. Footage of the attacks circulated widely on social media, including by RSF fighters themselves.
The hashtag #boycottUAE has gained traction across platforms, with posts like “Habibi, boycott Dubai” being shared hundreds of thousands of times. Activists, including Greta Thunberg, amplified the message, condemning the UAE’s role in funding and arming the RSF during what many describe as a genocide in Sudan.
Emirates Airlines faced backlash on social media after posting promotional content, with users responding by highlighting the UAE’s involvement in Sudan’s conflict and sharing videos of RSF atrocities. Many commenters criticized the UAE for harming its international reputation and called for boycotts of both the country and its airline.
Even football fans joined the discussion, particularly around Manchester City, which is owned by UAE Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Fan pages emphasized the importance of raising awareness of the UAE’s role in Sudan, urging moral responsibility and condemning the violence, even while noting the club and its players were not directly involved.
