ALWAGHT- Iranian FM Araghchi warns that attempts to reinstate lifted UNSC resolutions against Iran lack any legal basis.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected claims by the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany to reinstate UN Security Council resolutions lifted in 2015 under the JCPOA, calling them legally invalid. Speaking at the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Uganda, he urged countries not to recognize these claims and emphasized the importance of respecting international law and the UN Charter.
Araghchi highlighted the need for solidarity among developing nations to resist unilateral actions and the hegemonic ambitions of certain powers. He condemned recent aggressive acts by Israel and the US against Iran, describing them as violations of international law that threaten global peace and security. He also criticized the European countries’ misuse of the JCPOA dispute mechanism and the UN Security Council, calling their actions illegal and without legal effect.
Referring to the upcoming expiration of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 on October 18, 2025, Araghchi called on NAM members to oppose any coercive misuse of international institutions. He emphasized that the lack of jurisdiction, bad faith, and opposition by two permanent Security Council members render the claims by the US and European countries null and legally ineffective.
On Palestine, Araghchi described the occupation as the root cause of the conflict and reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination. He stressed Iran’s support for ending the genocide, ensuring humanitarian aid, rebuilding Gaza, and holding Israel accountable for its crimes. He also reiterated solidarity with NAM countries facing unilateral coercive actions by the US, including Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, Belarus, and Iran itself.
