ALWAGHT- Heavy fighting persisted Sunday between Sudan’s army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur in western Sudan.
The Popular Resistance in El-Fasher, an army-aligned group, said the city “continues to resist RSF assaults.” Meanwhile, the El-Fasher Resistance Committees confirmed that intense battles are ongoing between the army and the RSF.
According to the Sudan Doctors Network, a nurse was killed and three medical workers were wounded when RSF shelling hit the city’s main hospital. The group condemned the attacks on medical facilities as “war crimes and clear violations of international humanitarian law,” calling on the World Health Organization (WHO) to protect healthcare staff and infrastructure.
Fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF has escalated in recent weeks across the Darfur and Kordofan regions. The RSF has besieged El-Fasher since May 2024, while the army continues efforts to lift the blockade on the city, a key humanitarian hub for Darfur. The conflict, which began in April 2023, has killed over 20,000 people and displaced 14 million, though US researchers estimate the death toll could be as high as 130,000.
