US Senator Lindsey Graham: Venezuela Land Strikes “Real Possibility”

ALWAGHT- American Senator Lindsey Graham warned that land strikes in Venezuela are a “real possibility” amid rising tensions over a significant US military buildup in the Caribbean, which Caracas condemns as invasion preparations.

US Senator Lindsey Graham said President Trump plans to brief Congress on potential military operations against Venezuela and Colombia, suggesting a shift from naval strikes to possible land attacks. Graham expressed support for the move, noting Trump’s claim that previous sea operations have reduced drug trafficking, though no evidence has been provided to substantiate this.

Graham emphasized that the president can use military force without a congressional declaration of war, a stance criticized by Democrats and some Republicans. Democratic Senator Ruben Gallego called the US actions in the Caribbean “murder,” while Graham defended them as protection against narcotics trafficking.

Since September 2, US strikes on 10 vessels in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific have killed at least 43 people. Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro condemned the US presence as a potential prelude to an invasion aimed at toppling his government, which Washington accuses of leading a drug cartel.
