Iran Hails ‘Constructive’ Araghchi–Kallas Talks, Urges EU To Rethink Stance

ALWAGHT- Tehran called Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s meeting with EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas productive, noting that numerous points and ideas were discussed.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei described the recent Araghchi–Kallas meeting in Doha as an opportunity to raise points and ideas, expressing hope that Europe will reconsider its confrontational approach. He emphasized that Iran uses such meetings to advance national interests and caution against the misuse of the UN Security Council’s snapback mechanism, which was triggered by three European countries in August.

Baghaei rejected EU claims that the alignment of China, Russia, and Iran threatens the rules-based international order, questioning which rules Kallas referred to and criticizing the West’s use of such claims to justify illegal actions against other nations. He stressed that these accusations represent a hostile approach toward independent countries pursuing development based on national interests.

On Iran’s defense capabilities, Baghaei made clear that Tehran will not negotiate under any circumstances, emphasizing that safeguarding sovereignty, independence, and security is a non-negotiable principle. He also said the timing for the next IAEA talks remains undetermined as authorities review the results of the third round, after which Iran will announce the next steps.

Regarding the IAEA report, Baghaei noted that the agency recognizes Iran’s views are necessary, given the unprecedented attacks on its nuclear facilities by Israel and the US. He also dismissed recent British accusations as part of a long-standing policy of aligning with US pressure on Iran, stating that such claims are baseless and rejected by Tehran.
