ALWAGHT- UNRWA has paid tribute to its frontline teams in the Gaza Strip, reporting that almost 360 of its staff have been killed amid the Israeli regime’s genocide in the besieged territory.
On World Humanitarian Day, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini paid tribute to the agency’s frontline staff in Gaza, highlighting their immense sacrifices since the war began. He revealed that nearly 360 personnel have been killed, hundreds injured, and dozens abducted or tortured, yet many continue their work under extreme conditions. Despite facing “hell daily,” Lazzarini said, UNRWA teams remain committed to serving humanity.
He also praised staff across the wider region for continuing to provide vital services such as education and health care “against all odds.” Stressing their dedication, he said UNRWA workers deserve “support, respect, and admiration” for their steadfast service to Palestine refugees until a just resolution is achieved.
Lazzarini called for an end to Israel’s decades-long occupation, insisting that “it’s time, it’s overdue.” Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s assault on Gaza has killed nearly 62,004 Palestinians and injured over 156,000, mostly women and children. With border crossings sealed and aid blocked since March 2, Gaza’s humanitarian crisis has deepened, leaving its population under siege amid relentless bombardment.
