Yemen Fires Ballistic Missiles Toward Tel Aviv, Prompting Airport Shutdown

ALWAGHT- Missile strikes from the Yemeni Armed Forces hit Tel Aviv, shutting down Ben Gurion Airport and triggering emergency shelter measures.

The Yemeni Armed Forces announced on Wednesday that they launched a dual ballistic missile strike on Tel Aviv, using a “Palestine-2” and a “Zulfiqar” missile. The military described the attack as retaliation for Israel’s war and blockade on Gaza, as well as the “initial response” to Israeli aggression against Yemen. The strike reportedly targeted sensitive sites in the Yaffa area and was said to have achieved its objectives.

The operation caused significant disruption in Israel, leading to the shutdown of Ben Gurion Airport and the sounding of sirens across the Tel Aviv region, despite Israeli claims of an interception. Yemen asserted that the attack forced civilians into shelters and suspended airport operations. In response, Israeli airstrikes hit the Yemeni capital on Thursday, killing Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahawi of the National Government of Change and Construction, along with eight other officials.

The Yemeni military condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, accusing it of genocide against two million Palestinians and warning that its campaign of strikes would escalate. Since October 2023, Yemen has launched dozens of attacks on Israeli airports, ports, and other facilities in solidarity with Gaza. The conflict comes as Israel’s offensive has killed over 63,600 Palestinians and injured more than 160,900 others, the majority of them women and children.
