ALWAGHT- Senior generals from Iran and South Africa pledged to advance military cooperation through concrete measures, reaffirming their dedication to a strategic alliance based on shared national interests.
Major General Seyyed Abdolrahim Mousavi of Iran and General Rudzani Maphwanya of South Africa met on Tuesday to sign an agreement aimed at enhancing military cooperation, marking a significant milestone in Tehran–Pretoria relations. Both sides emphasized the importance of building on their shared political values to deepen collaboration on regional and international stages.
General Mousavi highlighted the IRGC as the world’s largest anti-terrorism force with valuable expertise to share with South Africa. He also pointed to Iran’s military branches, including the Army and Ministry of Defense, as possessing advanced capabilities that could support joint efforts to promote national interests and regional security. He condemned recent US-Israeli actions against Iran as breaches of international law and warned of a strong Iranian response to any renewed aggression.
General Maphwanya acknowledged Iran’s historic support for South Africa during the anti-apartheid movement, underscoring the deep ties between the two countries. He welcomed collaboration and praised South Africa’s move to pursue a genocide case against Israel at the International Criminal Court, noting its alignment with Iran’s commitment to justice.
